Will my alarm still work if my power goes out?
What happens to my alarm system when I'm without power?
Your security system comes equipped with a backup battery that will power your system in the event of a power outage. This backup battery can last anywhere from 8-24 hours depending on the age of the battery, how frequently you lose power, and the type of system you have.
Your system will beep and/or display that there is a trouble or issue to let you know there is power trouble. If the system does indicate a loss of power and you have not lost power, please consult your system manual for troubleshooting instructions or give our service center a call. See below for general troubleshooting tips:
💡Tips:
Check the systems transformer:
Typical System Transformers:
- Each security system has a transformer plugged into an outlet that provides power. Ensure that the transformer is plugged into the outlet and that the outlet in question has power. (If plugged in and the outlet is receiving power, contact the service center.
- If the transformer is unplugged, simply plug it in and the power should restore. (Please allow up to 48 hours for the backup battery to recharge).
If the outlet has no power check your breakers to confirm they're all switched on.
- If all breakers are on but outlet still has no power, check if the outlet is connected to a light switch or if you have a GFI outlet as it may need to be reset. (see below)
